In order to become an Armed Security Officer students will undergo all the training and process needed for an unarmed guard (Tier 1). This Tier 2 training consists of two segments: 1) classroom via on-line (Webinar) and the practical defensive tactics (conducted in-person in gym or training facility) courses, students need to take an additional 20 hours of training under licensed firearms trainer.
Segment 1 Classroom: The additional hours are designed to train a person how to handle their weapon, teach firearms safety, use of force, the laws of arrest, civil liability, and inform about laws regarding possession and use of firearms on the job. This is all very serious content.
Students receive an in-depth study during the Civil Law/Tort Law, D.C., MD, and VA Codes, and Constitutional Law class sessions, of the components, structure, principles, and processes within the American criminal and civil justice systems. Students will learn the elements of a crime, the difference between civil and criminal law, the stages of criminal and civil procedures, and constitutional and legal liability issues that can affect a security business or individual security officer.
During the on-line class segment students will cover various topics such as the Tenants of Firearms Safety, the Fundamental of Marksmanship, the specific D.C., MD and VA rules, laws and licenses, Use of Force Continuum, Deadly Force Exercise, Current Events and Legal Precedents, Safe Firearms Storage and Home Firearm Safety
Segment 2 Practical Defensive Tactics: Due the current COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing the practical segment of this training course will be scheduled at a later date.
During the practical segment students are taught: Approach/Control, Arrest, ASP, Baton, Pepper Spray techniques. Hands-on techniques for hand-cuffs, holds and take-downs and come-a-longs. There are Hands-on Practical Exercises where students engage in Pistol Operation and Manipulation, Loading and Unloading a handgun, Handgun & Gear Selection, Dry fire Practice and
Drawing, Reloading and Malfunction Drills.
